UNIVERSITY STRINGS

About the Ensemble

The University Strings ensemble is a string-only orchestra that provides meaningful performance opportunities for violin, viola, cello, and bass players across campus. Open to both music and non-music majors, the group focuses on cultivating ensemble skills, musicianship, and technical growth through the study of high-quality string orchestra repertoire.

The University Strings is led by qualified graduate students in BYU’s orchestral conducting program. The group performs one combined concert at the end of each semester with the University Orchestra in the Music Building’s Concert Hall.

How to Join

The University Orchestra is a non-auditioned class, which means students can participate simply by registering through BYU’s course registration system. Spots in the ensemble fill quickly each semester. Students are encouraged to register early to secure their place.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to register for the correct section number corresponding with your instrument. If you register with the wrong instrument you may be dropped from the course.
