BAROQUE ENSEMBLE

About The Ensemble

The BYU Baroque Ensemble offers a hands-on experience with early music through performance on period instruments and historically informed techniques. Open to string players, keyboardists, and select winds, the ensemble focuses on the music of Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, and their contemporaries.

Students rehearse and perform alongside faculty and peers in a collaborative, chamber-style setting. Emphasis is placed on developing expressive Baroque style—ornamentation, articulation, phrasing, improvisation—and applying those skills both on baroque and modern instruments. Instruments and bows are available for use, and no prior experience with historical performance is required.
