PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
About the Ensemble
The BYU Philharmonic is the flagship ensemble of Brigham Young University’s orchestral program, comprising up to 95 of the most skilled and dedicated student musicians on campus. As the university’s largest and most advanced orchestra, the Philharmonic is celebrated for its powerful performances, rich musicality, and commitment to symphonic excellence.
Led by Dr. Nathan Haines, the orchestra performs cornerstone works from the orchestral canon, including symphonies, concertos, operatic repertoire, and sacred choral-orchestral masterworks. The ensemble regularly collaborates with BYU's acclaimed choral groups and supports opera productions through the School of Music.
The BYU Philharmonic has a proud tradition of performing with world-renowned guest artists, offering students unparalleled opportunities to share the stage with leaders in the classical music world. Notable recent and past collaborations have included: legendary virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, acclaimed cello soloist Lynn Harrell, and the rising double-bass star Dominik Wagner.
In addition to live performances, the orchestra frequently participates in professional recording sessions, video productions, and university-wide broadcasts, showcasing BYU’s commitment to excellence in the performing arts.
